Everybody loves food.
The Japanese seem to have a special obsession, however, with cooking shows (and simply watching-others-eat shows?) occupying a surprisingly significant part of all television programming, and meibutsu, or famous local foods, being a major stimulus of domestic tourism. This means there are an awful lot of delicious restaurants around, both Japanese and foreign.
